Een Koerden aanvoelen zichzelf vaak door hun bondgenoten in de steek gelaten, ook meteen alweer. Ze vechten tezamen betreffende het Westen anti IS, doch als het Westen zichzelf terugtrekt, blijven zij in een verwoest land achter.

In een 7e eeuw beschikken over de meeste Koerden zichzelf overtuigd tot de islam na de Arabische veroveringen. Voorheen hadden de Koerden dit zoroastrisme indien geloof.

Een meeste Koerden zijn religieus. Circa 90% kan zijn moslim en tevens bestaan heel wat Koerden jezidi's. Ons zeer klein deel, circa 0,03%, is christelijk en daar bestaat ook een kleine joodse minderheid. Met die laatste band is sinds een onafhankelijkheid van Israël een deel naar het land geëmigreerd.

For most people, Kurdistan and Iraq is probably not going to be a place they would seek to travel to but it’s posts like this one which show the human side to these destinations that will hopefully inspire people to visit.
